There are a few conferences coming up in England which you may find useful. Note that this is by no means an exhaustive list!
The Elearning Foundation Spring Conference
The Elearning Foundation is an organisation devoted to the cause of reducing, if not eliminating, the digital divide. The conference programme this year looks very interesting, and includes keynotes by Vanessa Pittard, who is the educational ICT advisor at the Department for Education, and Lord Puttnam, who is always very inspiring. There is also a break-out session with two alternatives: one for primary and one for secondary school colleagues. You can book online. I attended last year’s one and found it very useful and enjoyable, so I’d recommend this. It takes place on 23rd May.
London Knowledge Lab
The London Knowledge Lab is running a series of two hour seminars under the general heading “What the research says”. The next one, on the use of mobile technology in Maths and Science, takes place on 25th May. I’m not sure if there are any places left, but I suggest contacting Rose Luckin if you’d like to find out. Her email address, and a bit more about the series, may be found on the seminars page.

Westminster Forum seminar
I quite like these seminars. If you don’t mind an intensive morning of many speakers, all experts in their field, they are a good way to get up to speed on the latest thinking in a particular area. On 12th June the focus will be the ICT curriculum, the title of the event being The next steps for the ICT Curriculum: basic skills, computer science and the ‘wiki’ curriculum. With many luminaries from the English educational ICT scene, this is definitely one to attend. Again, you can book online.

I’ve just been informed about another couple of conferences that look pretty good.
First of all there is the Northern Grid Conference. That features several people who will be familiar to many in the UK’s educational ICT scene. There are some great-looking talks and, what is really good, most of them seem to be repeated throughout the day. That’s on the 22nd June. The inestimable angry young man Simon (Something better change) Finch is involved, so it’s bound to be good.
Next, the Rethinking ICT day looks interesting. In fact, I’ve watched its development, on and off, over the months, and I like the way the organiser, Chris Leach, has taken a very collegiate approach to the whole thing, with blog posts along the lines of “I’m thinking X, what do you reckon?”. The day looks to be shaping up as a series of ten minute talks in the morning, and a choice of rooms to go to in the afternoon. The idea is that rather than have to agonise over which incredibly useful session to miss, you can (I think) wander in and out as you please, chatting with others with the same focus, and getting your hands on some equipment too if the mood takes you. Best advice: follow the Rethinking ICT blog to check on the latest developments. That’s on the 25th June.

The internet of things: Evolution in Technology and Data, Connectivity and Communication
This conference takes place on 15th May. It looks interesting, with a variety of speakers. It’s run by Inside Government, whose conferences tend to be somewhat intense, but very useful. Look at the conference website for details. I believe that booking is closing soon.

The ALT-C Conference looks interesting. With the somewhat 'edgy' title of "a confrontation with reality", it looks like being a good opportunity to engage in discussions with people outside your own area of expertise. It takes place 11th-13th September. Look at the ALT-C Conference page for details.
